  • Learn about the Mayflies of Ireland: This Water Heritage Day webinar will be delivered by Dr Jan-Robert Baars (UCD/AQUENS Ltd) on the mayflies of Ireland and an ongoing effort to record this ancient group of insects in freshwater habitats across the country. With the support of Ireland’s network of biodiversity & heritage officers and their respective local authorities, along with the National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Local Authority Waters Programme, Dr Baars is currently leading a team of researchers to complete a two-year red listing exercise to determine the current conservation status of all mayfly species in Ireland. This talk will cover the ecology and biology of mayflies, what we already know about mayfly in Ireland and share some interesting insights recently gained from the ongoing project. There will also be some tips and guidance from Jan on how people can get involved! There will be time for participant questions before the end of the session.
